I am well on my way to getting enough points for companion pass. It should be completed by the time my next statement comes around at the end of August. Right now I have a little over 60,000 miles from my SW Business visa and the min spend on my SW Personal card should it and get the bonus in August.
My wife and I are looking to book a flight to Orlando in December. I see they have a sale going on (Not sure if the flight I saw is part of the sale or not) Its only about 14,000 miles round trip per person.
Anyway, should I book the flight now and then when I get the companion pass add her to my reservation then?
Yes, especially if you're planning on booking with points.

No. BUT, you should book both of you on separate reservations each way (i.e., you'll make 4 reservations) NOW. Her reservations should be made with points and then her reservations can be cancelled/converted into a companion booking.

No, a points booking doesn't decrease your CPQPs earned during a calendar year. WN has 3 types of points. Redeemable Points; Tier Qualifying Points; and Companion Pass Qualifying Points. The only points balance that goes down when you make a reservation is points is the first one. The second two can only be added to until the end of the year (they reset each January 1st).
