Very true, but if that would let DL stop having to fly NRT - HKG/MNL/BKK it might be worth it. IF an Open Skies and anti-trust, and a JV happen DL may be able to leverage MU much like they do KL/AF in Europe.
A few overflies for strategic cities after that fly you to PVG and you connect on MU to the majority of Asian cities.
