So I've been checking in every day or so in the hope of prices dropping (and i'm still willing to use priceline later on). Yesterday, minimum price dropped by $20/day across the board. don't know what the rhyme or reason in but i snagged a lower rate right away. Maybe it will decrease even more as date approaches.
