Even without reading the fare rules I am 99.9% certain that a destination change, especially LAX/SAN, should not be an issue, provided that the base fare permits any changes at all, which I am 99.9% certain it will.

A LAX/PVG change would not be permitted because these airport are within different conference zones, but LAX/SAN certainly is in the same zone.
