Nasty and misleading insurance ploy! Collision insurance should cover ANY accident damage to the car you are driving.
Once, I was driving my older car and only kept comprehensive coverage. Doing 65mph on the interstate, at night, I saw a dog only 50-100ft in front of me. I swerved hard and missed the dog my a hair. Dispite my ability to steer my car straight, the momentum swung my backend around and I 360'd several times before going off the road backwards. I did extenstive damage to the undercarriage of my car, but was able to drive away unhurt. Because I did not make contact with the dog, my comprehensive claim was denied on the grounds that I had to actually make contact with the dog. The Georgia Insurance commissioner's office agreed with the insurance company. I am still happy I managed to avoid hitting the dog. After I went off the road, the dog just stood in my headlights starring at me.
