Warning-Thrifty in Italy

Just read an intersting article in Conde Naste Traveler. Thrifty car rental insurance in Italy only covers an accident when another car is involved. Yes, the person took out all optional insurance except personal injury. THREE of the tires blew out and he hit a concrete barrier. Thrifty denied the claim because another car was not involved!

His case turned out OK because another car did hit him after he hit the barrier and was stopped. He had failed to note this in his dispute with Thrifty and it was only brought to light when Conde Naste Ombudsman investigated.

Conde Naste Travler is advising everyone not to use Thrifty in Italy until it changes this policy. It seems most other car rental companies do cover single car accidents but it is wise to always make sure what is covered.
