The New World Courtyard by Marriott in Beijing is a great new property. It's just about 1 mile south of Tian'anmen Square and is connected to the back side of the New World Mall (has a great food court where you can eat great food on the cheap; also has a nice grocery store if you'd rather eat in your room or get supplies for your daytime excursions; also has a 24-hour per day internet cafe which is dirt-cheap compared to the hotel connections; finally, the hotel has a FABULOUS pool and workout club which it shares with some rather exclusive flats that are in the same building). If you've got some Marriott points you can stay there for free pretty easily. If not, Marriott has been running some pretty good rate specials recently.
