I was going to do a mileage run early this spring to get a jump on my 2002-2003 miles, but my girlfriend put her foot down and we are now taking a mini-vacation to Beijing (4 full days) and Tokyo (3 1/2 days).

Any hotel advice for either city is greatly appreciated. Right now I booked us into the Crowne Plaza in Beijing due to their low rates. Does anyone have any experience staying there, or any other preferences? Still browsing for Tokyo hotels.

In addition, what are some of the "must-see" items in these cities that are not necessarily listed in the big guide books?
