If that's in the cards, MU needs to dramatically improve its product and service on intra-Asia routes. In principle, I wouldn't mind using PVG as a hub, but on intra-Asia routes MU and Shanghai Airlines are a far far cry from Delta and Korean Air.
PVG would need to improve a lot as an airport, too. The wifi setup there is asinine, among things.
ICN and NRT (hell, even TPE) are nicer airports to be stuck in than PVG.
