Anyone know a way around this fee. Fine print says if you have a child under 12, they will reserve for free to keep with an adult, but my daughter will be 14, so no go there. I have no status with Delta, so no go there either.
Really irks me.
The VS policy is no different than MANY other European carriers (normal carriers, not just LCCs) who charge for seat assignments unless you have status, a full fare ticket, etc.
Perhaps you could call DL and see about rerouting on DL metal (assume they're still flying to MAN)? That said, even then seats are not guaranteed to be available for a non-status pax without paying.
