This portends a strategy of overflying Narita and bypassing Incheon to establish Shanghai Pudong as a hub for Asia service, maybe one day including service to far Asia ports like Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam, etc.
If that's in the cards, MU needs to dramatically improve its product and service on intra-Asia routes. In principle, I wouldn't mind using PVG as a hub, but on intra-Asia routes MU and Shanghai Airlines are a far far cry from Delta and Korean Air.
