But ... when I called into Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond line to make sure that the reservation would get put into the My Reservations place on my Hyatt Gold Passport account -- Amex Travel had been singularly unhelpful here; when I called in, the guy had nothing like a confirmation number and just said something about giving the Hyatt my number when I checked in, and I would "get the points" -- the Hyatt GP CSR, who was very sharp and helpful on several accounts, noticed that somehow Amex Travel had made this pre-paid booking for my via Orbitz. Hence it would not have counted as an eligible stay. This matters to me because I am what you might call a marginal Diamond: I'm going to make it at best by the hair of my chinny chin chin. I looked long and hard at all the e-mail stuff and on-line stuff I had from Amex Travel, but could not see any sign of Orbitz on it. We -- the Hyatt GP CSR and I -- went over this pretty carefully. She said it was all very obscure, that it was the kind of thing (the invisible-to-me Orbitz booking) that she would never have known about either, but since she had seen it before in the Hyatt job she was now aware, and so on. Since Amex Travel had not been to smooth on the phone I had no interest in calling them back, so I had the Hyatt GP CSR re-book me (for $2 more she found me a 3x points rate that probably more than makes up for the $100 I was getting from the Amex offer).
