Sorry for not being more precise. By outdoor space, I meant a private terrace or balcony. We like to be able to sit outside and relax with a nice drink. I'm not so concerned about outdoor space within the general hotel compound. Both the Fullerton and the Shangri-La have suites with private outdoor space. The question was: which hotel should I choose. We've now settled for the Fullerton as it's more in the centre of things, with a nice view over the harbour and generally looking like a more classy hotel.

The Raffles looked beautiful but the only rooms with private outdoor space were the two-bedroom Grand Hotel suites or the Presidential Suite. These weren't in my price range (minimum of quadruple the price of the other options).

We have booked the (beachfront) Strand Villa at the St Regis Bali. The Hanging Gardens look beautiful but my wife is a bit acrophobic.

Best wishes
