AS doesn't have AVOD, but they do provide F pax with a tablet to watch that has pre-loaded content.
Thanks for your post and you are exactly right. The next time I do this, I'll be on Alaska w/a digi player and wi-fi (and more valuable miles to me which will be actual miles + a 50% bonus and Alaska has better partner airlines for me as a resident of the W Coast) instead of a brand new UAL 737-900 w/0 entertainment and the miles linked to the fare. This trip, Dulles was more convenient than National on the flight home, but not so much more convenient to be worth 11 hours without any video entertainment. I will no longer fly a United flight transcontinental unless it's a p.s. flight---but that means I have to detour to SFO or LAX so I guess I'm done w/United.
