If you break it down it's not excessive at all. Over the past few days I've been searching for availability from six possible gateways in the US to five in Asia, across all three alliances, in either business or F, with both TATL and TPAC as options. Even checking just once a day (with only occasional segment by segment searches) it's easy to get to over 1,000 enquiries in a week.
You don't have to use the mobile version for every search, as the standard version of KVS has unlimited searches. Just a way of getting around the 400 limit. I understand how you can rack up a very large number with all the combinations you both are searching.
