Your experience more or less mirrors mine except I made the switch 3 - 4 years ago and even before that I was Gold with BA for about 10 years by just getting the requisite 800 points per year required at the time. Not long after I switched all my business from LY to BA I became a GGL and have held a CCR card for most of that period too (except for a few months last year).
