Change to Flights - Reprice

I am looking for some advice on changing flights. I am currently sitting in Orlando and need to return home immediately due to my wife's father being taken into hospital with a terminal diagnosis (days).

I booked my flight with BA in January as an ex-EU fare and was originally on the Babybus back on the 30th until this was cancelled. Trying to get BA to price the change and they are quoting 8.5k per person as there is no availability on the AA flight that I was changed to.

Can anyone offer any advice on what I should be asking BA to do here. I understood that the flight had a €300 change fee and would be re-priced at the fare at the time of booking (as I have already taken the outward leg) but BA is disputing this.

Can anyone offer any assistance on where I can go with this?
