Great advice -- and definitely worth doing if the change fee isn't worth it. (Works better for folks flying UA though. About the only time to be bummed about DL running such a smooth operation is in a case like this.)

As noted, the original r/t MSP-CLT-MSP ticket will need to have cost $500 or more to be worth paying the change fee to "salvage" the return half.

And no, you won't get mileage/MQM credit for an unflown, thrown away leg.
