Well as a MM I will (at least for now) never not have status and probably would not have that same experience

. Perhaps the OPs spouse should have stated "but I sleep with a DM". None of us were there so we also don't know how they approached the GA, did she ask or demand for the seat.
It is naïve to expect the same handling in IRROPS for non-status family members as you when they are travelling by themselves. It is also one thing to complain when the GA didn't do their job, it's another when you complain when they didn't do you a favor.
