I'm not sure a court would entertain such a claim. Airlines have a duty to get you from origin to destination along with any declared stopover (but not layovers). Therefore there is no guarantee of your routing so long as your O/D remain the same.
That is correct. AC is under no obligation to route you a certain way so long as they get you to your destination. Seen this happen many times where people's routings get shortened/lengthened due to IRROPS. This is particularly dangerous for those who book/practice hidden city ticketing. And insisting on connecting in certain cities is a big red flag (with no checked bags) for GA/TA's.
Having a concierge notate your PNR for no re routes/offer early etc to help you play the EYW game is a definite feather in your cap, along with status and good negotiating skills. But again, there is no legal obligation to honour a certain routing (unless a stopover is involved) so long as they get you to your destination.
I disagree with everything you've said.
I don't call in and say "I want to fly SFO to YYZ via YVR." I say "I want to fly SFO to YVR on AC 1843, and I want to fly YVR to YYZ on AC 1176." They can infer that I only care about getting from SFO to YYZ, but it's absolutely not what I said, or what I want.
On another matter, "offer early" is pretty awesome. It basically turned my Tango booking into Latitude in terms of flexibility
