Stopped at walmart and purchased big plastic totes and rolls of paper towel to use as shock absorbers and duct taped the the totes shut. each weighed just under 70lbs, and fit within my luggage allowance. I only had about 2 hours between receiving the equipment to getting onto my flight so I had to improvise a little.
The objective was to prevent the equipment and software from being reverse engineered.
If that was the objective, I'm sure you could have taken a later flight, no? Seems important enough

What happens if a bag is oversized?
The only thing "special" I've ever tried to check was a paintball gun, but I didn't read the rules well enough, so I ended up ditching it in the concierge office and had someone come and pick it up. I'm never going to get that thing down to SFO
