Luckily Chrome auto fill has taken the load of that burden.

The only time I've had UA try to force $$$$$$ Y fares was when trying to book on one ticket SFO-NRT & LHR-EWR and it came out to like 3x the price of what I ended up doing in just booking them each on their own.
