Yes, I see your point. I do understand that airlines want to reward their frequent fliers, and offer aspirational targets. Lord knows I have deliberately taken a flight merely to reach another level of plastic!
The point I am making is that I would still be buying the seat, I would if anything be more profitable for the airline as I wouldn't be continually on the look out for TP run offers! I would start to fly from A-B without stopping at C,D and E to earn extra points!
At some point though, these are commercial entities, and if the option of selling access to the CCR or being able to buy Gold was structurally possible and profitable I am hard pressed to see why they wouldn't do it.
We on this site value a tier point at around and under £3. A gold card is therefore notionally worth £4,500, without TP running.
