Expired Aloha Airlines Coupons Hassle for Oahu Man

(KGMB 9 News) Honolulu : A Honolulu man may not make it home for Thanksgiving and he blames Aloha Airlines.

He's holding tickets he can't use and what happened to him could be an eye-opener for anyone else planning to use inter-island coupons.

The man thought he was being smart.

And bought a year's worth of Aloha Air coupons to cut his expenses and now he's out of money.

Aloha Airlines refused to talk on camera.

They say the problem with its expired coupons is "too confusing."

Kelly Miyashiro says, " I talked to customer relations and all they could say was I'm sorry, I feel your pain."

Miyashiro is stuck with $600 of expired coupons.
He flies in and out of Hilo for work.
His home is on Oahu.

In January, Aloha Air announced it would "stop selling coupons to the public or for resale through travel agents" and "all previously issued coupons would be honored up to their expiration date."

Travel agencies kept selling coupons as late as two months ago.

Several told us Aloha Airlines told them all expired coupons were good until the end of the year if a 24 dollar surcharge was paid.

Aloha Air says they stopped taking expired coupons last month.

An internal office memo dated October 31st says "effective immediately" the airline "revised the policy regarding the acceptance of expired coupons." And "will not accept an expired coupon for travel nor extend them beyond the expired date."

Miyashiro says customers should have gotten the memo.
He says he now has to find another way and spend more money to fly back home for the holidays.
