2015 Toyota Camry SE Ride Report

2015 Toyota Camry SE, MSRP as rented $23,840
FCAR (Full Size Car)

Pros:
- Roomy interior for 4 adults (can seat 5)
- 4" Multi-Information Display
- Upgraded SofTex & cloth seats with 8-way power driver's seat
- Backup camera
- Bluetooth audio and phone

Cons:
- Infotainment touch-screen on the small side

Not exactly the most exciting of choices, but I have been wanting to try the refreshed 2015 Toyota Camry. I recently had an SE model in Attitude Black in Las Vegas for a short drive around the Strip and Downtown. Side note on the color: the numerous scratches, water stains, and swirl marks evident in the paint reinforced why I'll never buy a car in black.

When you compare the slim $870 price differential between the Camry LE and SE, it makes you wonder why anyone would settle for the base model. For the extra $870, you get a good looking set of 17" aluminum wheels (new design for 2015), SofTex & cloth-trimmed seats with red stitching, and an upgraded color multi-information display between the gauges (also new for 2015). Even minor things like the chrome exhaust finisher and rear spoiler add to the aesthetics and make the Camry SE shed the fleet-special vibes of the LE model.

The SE reportedly includes a sport-tuned suspension, but make no mistake: this is still a Camry that we're talking about. It rides and drive just like you'd expect a family sedan should -- smooth, and without any real drama.

I really like the color multi-information display that's making its way through the Toyota (and Lexus) lineup. It can be configured to show a myriad of different metrics including a digital speedometer, current fuel economy, miles-to-empty, etc. Similarly, Toyota's upgraded infotainment (Entune Audio) software is in the 2015 Camry. I've found it to be intuitive and responsive, but not the most attractive of interfaces. The 6.1" display is on the smaller side (a larger 7" screen is found in higher trim levels), and it can get washed out in direct sunlight.

Relative to other FCAR choices on the National aisles, I'd rank the Camry SE above the Altima S but below the 2015 Charger or the leather-equipped Fusion SE with Luxury Package or Titanium. I haven't driven the 2015 Sonata yet, and will wait-and-see on the new 2016 Malibu.
