But you don't need to book a roundtrip with AS miles or with AA miles; both programs offer one-way awards. Assuming that you can find the award seats, you could book (SFO)-LAX-DOH-CPT with AA miles, and JNB-HKG-SFO with AS miles (or a higher amount of AA miles).
