I would not worry too much about the price in the US. Everything there is way cheaper than in the UK and would be easily covered by what BA would reimburse you.
But I agree that the inconvenience of having to purchase one immediately upon arrival may be stressful. Can find them at Walmart, Walgreen, CVS, Rite Aid.
