Lahaina would be the best location to stay given the surf spots on Maui. You might not get the huge swells at Honolua, but you have all the other spots near Lahaina. There's a few in Kahului (where the airport is located), and you can check these out (it's only a 45 min. drive) if the other spots aren't too hot.
