But they call zone 2 before zone 1 is done.

This is the new norm.
At YYZ D40 today they called Zone 1 and even before I was finished taking two steps they called Zone 2 and fire trucking Zone 2 hoard piled it on so me and two other S100Ks ended up waiting - no actual Zone 1 passenger had the chance to board first.
This is clever because the GAs are following protocol. The protocol never said how long they had to wait.
I'm surprised they didn't just go:
1. We are now boarding Zone 1
... 3 seconds later
2. We are now boarding Zone 2
... 1 second later
3. We are now boarding Zone 3
... 0.5 seconds later
4. We are now boarding Zone 4
... 0.25 seconds later
5. We are now boarding Zone 5
... approaching speed of light
6. We are now boarding Zone 6
