It will still take her about a month to get her free night certificates, so I went ahead and booked two nights for Park Hyatt with my points. I'm sure by the time she gets her certificates, there will be no more room left. So I'm wondering will it work if I call them, ask them to cancel my award stays and immediately use my gf's free night certificates to get these two nights back to her account?
I tend to think that this won't work especially since it involves different accounts. It would be iffy even with the same account - back in the FFN days, many of us would pre book the awards using points to convert when the FFN are earned. Some agents were able to do it and some didn't know how.
Canceling your points award night doesn't automatically put the room back into the appropriate inventory of base room if the property is nearly or totally full. You can't get a new award reservation when that inventory doesn't exist.
