I remember clearly having that discussion with 2 pilots on those happy pre-Sept 11th where jump seat landing was permitted and both pilots 1 on A-320 and 1 on A-340 told me the they prefered to land the plane manually. Smoother and also keep the skills intact.
One of them told me that he didn't like the feeling he got when he was using autolanding feature, he needed to feel he was in command.
