I can easily see BA restricting guests to same-flight only. It is the constant pushing of the spirit of the rules by a few that will lead to them being changed, and thereby a loss to everyone (such as Gold Open Doors).
They would need to get oneworld to change rules for all members, as for now oneworld permits anyone with sapphire or emerald status to bring a guest, as long as that guest is on any oneworld flight.
Open Doors was a uniquely BA offering (and something that made me more loyal to them back when they offered it), and therefore falls into a category of benefits that BA can decide by itself whether or not it offers. Lounge guesting is not unique to BA, on the other hand, and could only be eliminated by a change to oneworld policy.
