I agree the OP was not breaking a rule, but it sounds like the attitude was maybe not conducive towards getting a positive result.

FWIW SAS lets you take one guest or up to 3 family members (travelling on the same flight). Would mean you could take your partner + two kids. I think that's not a bad compromise since the kids won't drink/eat that much anyway.
