Unless i had arranged for someone else to guest my +2 in advance i would have simply not bothered trying to get into the lounge. Sure, no rules broken but the lounges do often seem very busy (esp the j lounges) and just seems against the spirit of it. I'd have just sat somewhere and groused. I gladly also guest strangers, but generally only from ft as y'all are generally good company for a drink and a blether. Not sure i'd be too happy at guesting someone who then just wanders off. Anyway, it worked out for you and as you say no rules broken. Next drama please!
