Like someone said in another thread. It's about expectations. I flew Air Asia yesterday. Paid $60 including bag, food and exit row. Knew exactly what to expect. People buy Rouge thinking they are getting Air Canada, as the name implies, and when they can't feel their knees after, they take to the Internet to voice their displeasure. When you sit in 29" pitch, non premium, non preferred seat, you can talk about how great Rouge is.
Don't waste your time.
And the Japanese have had high density domestic configs since the 70s at least so apples to oranges. But don't let facts get in the way...
