You are absolutely correct. I forgot which hotel, but during my 2 week Asia vacation, I recall reading that there will be a welfare check done after a few days of no contact. I think it was either GH KUL or GH TPE.
On another note, most Asian hyatts required me to physically checkout so no mattress run in Asia.
