The good news however is that it will be one of the brand new 787-9 series (http://www.thebasource.com/seatmaps/...2j39w127y.html) with 4 classes of service, additional seat width in Y, upgraded IFE, 'Improved First', and that 'new plane smell' - http://www.ausbt.com.au/british-airw...r-boeing-787-9

I'm travelling AUS-LHR-AUS in September when they will be testing the new 787-9 prior to deployment to DEL and I'm hoping it's improvement over the 787-8. I wonder if the 787-9 will stay around for a while, I think it's a step up over the 777-200.
FWIW, the seat capacities between the 787-9 and the 777-200 are not much different on the carriers currently flying both planes. NZ and UA both have less than 10% more seats on a 777-200 as compared to a 787-9. I'd probably prefer a 787-9 at this point to a 777-200, newer plane and both are awful in economy anyway .
