Linking separate bookings: advised not to use OLCI
I have a 2-4-1 booking to Johannesburg, and am then travelling straight on to Cape Town on Comair (all F class). I rang the gold line to ask if the bookings could be linked, and if luggage could be checked all the way through. I know this isn't always possible, but was told told that notes have now been entered onto both bookings, and that I should check in at the airport and not use OLCI.
That seems to make sense, i.e. the notes can only be read by a real person at check-in, but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone can see any downside to not using OLCI? We've already selected seats so I don't see a problem myself.
The only reason for asking, really, is that the agent sounded a bit hesitant at times. He said I'd receive an email confirming the flights had been linked but I haven't so far (3 days later), however the bookings still look fine (i.e. exactly the same) in MMB. I don't want to overthink this, but I am wondering if I've possibly confused things by ringing up in the first place.
