Don't worry .. Port Allen is fine. The main difference between going out of Port Allen vs H.B. is that H.B. is right at the North end of the Napali Coast, so you spend more of your time on the coast itself, while at Port Allen, there's an hour or so ride past the West side of the island, including Barking Sands which is pretty drab until you hit the southern end of the Napali Coast.

Most commercial boat ops on Kauai do run out of Port Allen, because that's where the facilities are. They tried to stop all boat ops out of H.B. a couple of years ago, but a couple of them are still able to operate here.
