AeroMexico - Pesos, Billing, and Call Centers

Hello all,
Long time lurker but first time poster. I fly about 10 international RT legs a year, and maybe 10 more domestic - but this is the first time I've had a story worth sharing. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.

I have a rather specific route and timing I need to run for a trip from LAX to a central Mexican airport. AeroMexico is the only airline who's timetables match my needs. I went online but the payment would not process through (no reason mentioned). When that happens, AeroMexico sends out a confirmation email requesting that you call their call center to process payment.

Their call center representative told me that he could only book the flight in dollars (I had used the Mexican website, which prices in pesos). It didn't matter to me - so I went ahead with the booking (he told me a US dollar price, which seemed a bit high but reasonable enough (assuming some loss on the FX translation). When my confirmation email came through though, I noted that: the US dollar price was very competitive, but they'd added a $15 fee per passenger for telephone assistance.

I was obviously not happy with this, particularly as I had been told nothing of such a fee (only a total booking price - "converted" from pesos). A second call back to their call center was not productive. The CSR got snippy with me when I told them to either refund the fee or refund the tickets - I finally had to quote the FAA 24 hour refund period to get him to process the refund. I still don't have confirmation of the refund, but will be doing a chargeback on the CC if it doesn't come through. They do have an email address which will supposedly send you confirmation of the refund (amusrefunds @ aeromexico. com) - but I have yet to get a response there.

After getting the initial booking refunded, I was able to go online and book the same ticket on the US site(same airplane seats too - I wonder how that works!). I had a similar problem with payment (same card, probably a fraud flag) and had to call in again. This time they did not attempt to add on a phone fee (perhaps because the ticket was already priced in USD?).

All told it worked out alright, but I am most unhappy with the customer service team. For anyone else booking with them- make sure to use the US website if you're using a US card.
tl;dr Aero Mexico will not charge US cards in pesos. Be ware.
(I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else on the forum, but my search skills may not be up to par)
