Hi Susana,

First off welcome to FlyerTalk. Secondly, I suggest you remove your membership number from your post. FT is a public forum. The last thing you want to happen is to have your account hacked.

I am an Accor Plus member so let me go through point by point my observations/comments on what you have mentioned.

1. Points in the Accor Loyalty program expire if the membership remains unused for 365 days. By unused I mean that you have not accumulated any points in the past 365 days. So you say you have stayed "a lot of nights", but I then assume: not in accor properties.
If that is the case, then the Accor Plus membership was never meant for you. The Accor membership is not about the two free night certificates. Its about dining deals and also the fact that you always get 10% off rates when you book online. But since you have not stayed in an Accor property for 365 days, you have not taken advantage of this card at all.
If your points will expire tomorrow, I suggest you log in online, and redeem the EUR40 vouchers. You need 2000 points per voucher. These vouchers are then valid for 6 months. So you have to stay in a hotel in the next 6 months, NOT book a prepaid rate, and then you can redeem the voucher when you check out of the hotel.

2. I do not understand why they would re-open a new membership account (as this is a renewal). Nevertheless, in my opinion, there is no invasion of privacy here. You have given them consent to renew which means they have your details. My question is just: why did they open a new account. IN ANY CASE, you could have simply asked them to merge both accounts - no issues.

3. I have not heard from my Accor Plus Manager the need to book 6 months in advance. Also, there is an online website for you to make use of the certificate - there is no need to "beg". Granted, some hotels are impossible to book - but I just redeemed a month ago one night at the Novotel Century HK and the going rate that night was USD235.00 - and yes, its for a basic room. However you can top up cash for a higher category room.

4. Again, if you have purchased the Accor Plus membership for the sake of 2 hotel rooms, then you should not have purchased the membership in the first place. Of course, the Accor Plus staff are trained to hard-sell. But you can always say "no". The fact that you purchased 3 additional membership (!) tells me you were really easily convinced. (After all, 3 additional membership probably gave you an additional year free membership correct?).
Hotel rooms in Singapore aren't cheap, neither are they in Australia. The fact that hotel rooms in Thailand, China, Malaysia etc are cheap is common knowledge. But there are also some 'not so cheap' properties in those countries under the Accor Group.

5. Sales is sales. You can always say "no". I can't blame the Accor staff here. You consented to the money to be deducted. When you sign on for any membership program, you should always do your homework. Dont simply take information at face value. If you dont stay much in Accor properties, or if you dont often dine in them, this card is NOT for you.

6. See Nr. 5.

7. I fully agree.

8. If you dont stay in a property, you will be downgraded. That is the cycle of membership. It is the same for any program. Sue, I suggest you call them up to merge both accounts.

9. I think the key word here is "learnt". We learn through mistakes - of course we like to take it out on the people who made us make the mistake.

I stay around 80 nights a year in Accor properties. All booked online. I claimed the free night cert 1 night last year at the So Sofitel Singapore, and another at the Novotel Century HK. I would say I have saved approximately USD700 just on the 10% discount I get over lowest rate as I am a Accor Plus member. I have saved around USD500 on the dining privileges over the year. That is where the card pays off. In my opinion, if you have at least 20 nights a year in Accor properties in Asia-pacific, you should get the card.

Safe travels!
