My husband is 66 years old and attended public high school here in NYC. His was a school with a pool and he tells me that nothing woke you up better than second period swimming in the winter. The pool room was not heated and the boys used no swimsuits. They couldn't wait to jump in to the heated water. So even in the northeast swimming in the buff was not uncommon back in the day. Today, the kids wear swimsuits.
