Would it? UA has the technology to know when a flight containing passengers with tight connections has deplaned and whether or not those passengers have a chance of getting to the next flight within say, 10-15 minutes. Holding the doors open for flights a tad longer in such cases isn't going to make much of a difference, given that on-time performance has already suffered due to issues 10x bigger than waiting for stragglers to make it to the gate.
