The hotel does have a responsibility. A responsibility to its shareholders to pursue a claim against the driver (i.e. the OP) to make them whole. Think about how much business they are going to lose when the battered van shows up at the pick up point. People are going to walk - literally and figuratively. Who wants to be shuttled around in a damaged van? The humanity of it all.

For the OP. Your responsibility is that the next time you to attempt to drive between to parked vehicles is to:

1) Let your wife do it (women know when things are smaller, and do not exagerate)

2) Ask for one of the vehicles to be moved.

3) Park in the self serve lot and ask for the hotel to bring the shuttle around for you.

PS If the van's bumper was in your blind spot you mirrors are not adjusted correctly.
