Agree with you that F on a 744 is not completely private, but despite my great affection for 64A, I would take 2A/K over it any day (and probably take most other seats in F, though I'm not a big fan of 1A/K on the 744).
Back on topic, though BA's service has become less consistent, I could only say I've had genuinely bad service in BA F once, and then only from one CC in the crew. Mostly it has been in the good-to-very good category, with the occasional excellent. In recent times there have been a few more cases of average / indifferent service, but nothing I'd call genuinely bad. It's probably less proactive that it used to be, which is fine if you are experienced and confident enough to hit the call button when you want something, but not everyone feels comfortable with that.
Service is tricky, as expectations are so varied. One person's "too robotic" is another's "consistently meeting expectations" (a comparison often made about ME3 and some Asian carrier service). Some BA service is considered characterful / charming / amusing by some, but thought rude / casual etc by others. Use of humour is always a risk when working across cultures, so it doesn't surprise me that BA crew style doesn't always "translate".
I don't think the style of service needs to be the same on all carriers, but whatever style you have should be delivered with a consistent level of professionalism, and that seems to be becoming BA's issue recently.
