Most modern phones support most of the common frequencies and technologies to make them work to some extend... I think GSM and some kind of 3G will work in 99% of the networks over the world using a modern phone.

Same goes for other devices from other manufacturers. Yes, still there are different technologies around but the devices are more and more capable to at least provide basic* connection.

* today's basic (voice and 3G) was space ship science 3 years ago....
