Our usual route on the Big Island when going to Volcanoes is to circunavigate the island. We typically go Kona-Waimea-Hilo-Volcano Nat. Park. We return around the southern part of the island back to Kona.

Two nights should be plenty, but there is a lot to do if you wanted to stay longer.
