Thanks to all for the great tips. I've been able to make some great reservations on the big island because of your suggestions.

Now.......we want to fly into Hilo and rent a car and return it to Kona and fly out of there. Does anyone know of a rental company that does not charge a drop off fee. I've tried Alamo, Budget, and Avis and all have extra charge.

I was hoping to find a room for around $75 for the first nite arrive. My son is in the Navy and will return from a 6 month deployment the next day. When he is with us we can take advantage of the military facilities such as the Hale Koa and KMC over on the Big Island. So I'm just looking for something as cheap as possible for the first nite.
