I see what your problem might be, you are probably combining a US flight one direction with an AA flight the other direction. As this involves two partners it prices as a multi-partner award which uses the separate pricing table above. Indeed this is the problem as I was just able to duplicate it. OP your remedy is to book the outbound and inbound as separate redemptions or stick solely to AA or US if booking as a return.
