Just a one off antecdotal story but looked recently to get from South Florida to PDX.

Had some GGU to use so looked at FLL and MCO. No u space available.

Then looked at buying F. The AS fares were way more expensive and ended up getting a G and A fare on DL out of PBI (my home airport) for about what one way was pricing on as.com for FLL-PDX ( via SEA).
